Have you ever met someone who instantly puts you at ease and makes you feel calm and happy? That’s Kristi Patterson of Grace Hill Design in Wayzata, MN to a ‘T.’
It’s not surprising that she dubbed her design style as ‘happy.’ Her projects feature just the right amount of happy, peppy colors like navy blue, kelly green, and even deep pink.
When Kristi found me, she and her team had just put together new copy for the Grace Hill Design website, but she wanted to get a handle on her brand messaging to 1) weave into the new copy and 2) inform marketing campaigns she and her team had in mind.
She knew working with me would give her brand messaging that aligns with her goals for Grace Hill and with what her perfect match clients need to hear. She was so ready to get started, in fact, that she did her homework by filling out my Find Your Differentiators worksheet before we ever got on a call together (she got an A+ and a gold star!).
The funny thing is, Kristi told me that she’d spent years believing that her work should simply speak for itself. And from her point of view as an interior designer, I can see why. But homeowners are looking at it from a very different angle.
Kristi’s gorgeous photography doesn’t answer all their questions. It doesn’t give them a sense of what it’s like to work with Kristi. It doesn’t tell them Krist can solve their specific design challenges.
She said that when she heard me talking about brand messaging on a podcast, it clicked for her. She realized she wasn’t attracting as many clients as she could be if she focused on speaking their language.
We used the ‘happy’ design style theme as the springboard for Kristi’s brand messaging. For Kristi and her clients, happiness is about home – having a beautiful place to gather with loved ones, to recharge at the end of the day, and to simply enjoy life. Centering her messaging on those values was the key to connecting with her ‘perfect match’ clients.
We also created a plan for how she could use her new messaging on her website, as well as her social media and other marketing efforts so she had actionable steps she could take immediately to start bringing in even more great clients.
Kristi says our work together made her feel like I’m more of a member of her team than a one-and-done writer, and that means the world to me. I love getting inside my clients’ businesses with them and helping them make sense of it all so they can communicate about it with clarity and confidence.
That’s what I did with Kristi and it’s what I strive to do with all of my clients. It just makes me (and them) ‘happy’.
